Welcome to Day 31 of How to Earn $ From Sewing and Quilting! Today is the last day of the month and I just want to wrap things up…

It’s been a big month and I do appreciate all of you who have hung in there with me! Maybe I should have done 31 quilt blocks after all… lol! There is always next year – remind me to do something a bit more simple!!!!

What I hoped to achieve with this series is to encourage people who love sewing and quilting, and who would like to earn something from their hobby. I don’t mean make a big business out of it, although some people can do that, but just be able to support their hobby and contribute towards household expenses.

I wanted to encourage you that there is a market out there for selling quilting supplies, be that online, from home, or from a shop….

I wanted to encourage you that you can teach others your skills…

I wanted to encourage you that you can quilt for others, helping them to finish their projects…

I wanted to encourage you that there is more room for more quilt patterns, so follow your dreams….

And I wanted to encourage you that there is a place for selling handmade items, that there are people out there that appreciate something that has been made by hand….

I’d also like to encourage you to

1. Not feel bad about charging for some of the things above… and

2. Not forget to do the things above for free! 

What do I mean by this?

1. Don’t feel Bad to Charge

For some people the skills they have in sewing and quilting might be one of the few things they are able to use to supplement their income. They may feel bad for charging for these skills. But they shouldn’t. If you are good at your hobby, there is no reason why you can’t earn from it.

2. Don’t Forget to Give

While it is perfectly fine to earn money from your hobby, make sure you also give your skills and your time away when you can. Not everyone who wants to learn how to sew or quilt can afford it… be a blessing to these people and share your skills for free. Share your stash… share your time…

The Craft and Quilting Community

I think the second point above is not hard for those who are part of the crafting community. Every single craft group I have been involved in has been full of ladies who were willing to share their knowledge for free. This is how we keep these crafts alive.

Every group I have been part of has been generous in sharing not only knowledge, but fabric, magazines, books and supplies… and I know that our blogging community is the same. There is so much sharing going on in the blog world – tutorials, hints and tips, fabric, swaps, random gifts… etc, etc. It is truly a wonderful thing to see and be part of…

And in all the groups I have been in there have always been those who support the ones in the first point above – they buy our patterns, go to our classes, ask us to finish their quilts…

Thank you to all of you who have supported me in taking my classes and being my customers at my little shop…. and for putting up with 31 Days of Earning  from Sewing and Quilting! 

Don’t worry.. next month I will give everyone a break from daily posts (including myself!!), and will be back to tell you what else I have been up to in the past month….  (Oh and I’ll be back to answering comments via email… much easier to keep up with!!)
