Happiness is bringing your crochet on holidays and crocheting with your nieces…
Other than a few outings while I was away, I spent most of the week on the veranda crocheting with my nieces 🙂
First of all the weather in Cairns… well, it was overcast…and rainy… and a little bit humid… but thankfully, it was mostly not too hot! (I don’t like the heat at all!) The coolest part of the house was on the balcony, so that is where I parked myself and my crochet 🙂
Bianca (19) loves to crochet, so she joined me right away on the first day… she was working on earrings:

Aren’t they cute?!
Kira (15) was feeling left out, so I taught her to crochet… she chose three colors of my yarn and starting making this:

She got the hang of it really quickly, but didn’t enjoy it much… so she’s not hooked on crochet just yet! Maybe when she’s a bit older!
I started on Granny Squares, using Lori Holt’s Chunky Thread – it’s 100% cotton and really nice to work with…. and I like to work on more than one granny square at a time…

Until they all make a lovely little pile…
I thought it would be fun to take photos everyday and post them on Instagram….

Of course just like with quilting, I get distracted… who knew there were squirrels in Cairns?!!!!
I showed Bianca a pattern I’ve been wanting to do for a loooong time, and we decided we needed to try it… so I got it up on my ipad and we started a new project…

It’s called Painted Roses Blanket by Cherry Heaart and I bought it on Ravelry.
I’m glad I had Bianca to help me figure out the pattern – I do much better following a video or a person than reading a pattern.
After making one, I decided to do 7 more and do each step for all 7 at the same time…

These are the colors Bee chose…. and she was much quicker than me 🙂

The plan is to turn them into a bag… but of course we’ll be doing that on our own because I was only there for 5 days.
Since I got home I haven’t touched them! Been too busy with things around the house… but only have one color left to go, so I should get them done pretty quick.
I’m really enjoying making them and I think I’ll grab some other yarn and make a blanket but I should probably start that after I finish Lori’s Granny Squarealong… what do you think?!

I like to finish what I start before I start something else, so I can’t help you. 🙂
How nice to share your yarn pursuits! I think that pattern might find its way into my basket! lol
I learned that the hard way with so many unfinished projects when I first started crafting.
Your younger grand is such a quick learner, but I guess she’s on the go?
I usually do lap work like crochet in the winter to keep my lap warm.
Your granny squares are beautiful.
Everything is so pretty! Nancy
Lovely to know that the next generation enjoys some of the same skills we do.
Love your new crochet project. I’m the same with crochet, i have to be shown can’t read a pattern. 🙂 Hugs,
Oh how lovely all the little granny squares are. How fun to hang out with your nieces and crochet together. Love those colours of the yarn.
Clever you & niece. I’m sure you’ll work out what is most important to do and don’t you crafters have many WIPs onthe go at any one time.😄Take care and hugs.
Such wonderful colours in those yarns! Makes me want to start another afghan but I don’t need one and I’ve gifted one to everyone I can think of so I will resist the urge. Instead, I spent this afternoon crocheting a toy for #3 grandie. Loosely using a pattern but also veering off into another direction with it. We’ll see how it turns out.
connecting with your nieces sounds good… love the roses crochet blocks – it will be gorgeous

Love all your pretty projects. I’m like you and have several projects on the go at the same time; hand quilting a little quilt, 2 EPP projects, knitting some slippers, 3 quilts in various stages from cutting to piecing and I think 87 in the To Be Quilted pile since I don’t Peet to visit my longarm often enough 😢
