Yes, I am still working through all the photos of my travels, and this time I’m sharing my trip to a Dutch Op Shop!
I’ve been to this op shop before a few times, but it had a complete overhaul since I was last there…
I really like the way they have repurposed pallets and other bits of wood to make their displays:
Mum and I always head for the crockery sections first.. we both have a bit of an obsession with tea cups…
While as you know I had to keep a strict watch on what was coming home in the suitcases, some of the above teacups did come home with us! And I used one of them to give mum a cup of tea in bed on her birthday at the hotel in Arabia:

We have them here in Australia too.. I was interested to see if they also had recipes on them like we do:
Sure enough, they do! The tomato soup one was in English:
and it actually looks like a nice recipe – I think I’ll try it one day!
The other ones were in Dutch – the ones in the back right were Mushroom Soup recipes, and the ones on the left were Soup of the Day recipes – French Onion Soup and Clear Oxtail Soup:
Didn’t get a clear enough photo of the Dutch recipes, might have to send my cousin back to check them out – haha!
I bought some of my favorite childhood comics:
Yeah, they were heavy, but so far I really hadn’t bought much! (No I didn’t buy them all!)
I saw this cute vintage suitcase that I thought DD would like…
…but didn’t buy it.
There was a bucket full of Dutch knitting needles:
Dutch knitting needles are different than Australian ones in that they are much longer. Last time I was there I bought a bunch to take home, so I didn’t need any more this time.

There wasn’t a lot to tempt me in the end, so that was good! Mum was happy with her teacups and I was happy with my comics!

Very fun items in the shop! A lot of people toss the old machines here, too, and use the wrought iron for a table base. Seems a shame to me!
Sometimes you find treasures and sometimes you don’t. Love the tea cups.
They’re very sweet tea cups and I love the soup bowls with recipes. I’ve never seen them before, but I must admit, I’m not really an op-shopper.
Thanks Joy, was interesting to see what shops are like in other countrys. Saw lots of tea cups in our local shop today, you better come on over and look!!
I have a love/hate relationship with thrift stores – I love poking around in them but end up hating myself when I end up bringing stuff home that we really don’t need. I would have been seriously tempted with that suitcase to use as a little end table…haven’t room for it, but I still would have been tempted.
Oh, those soup cups are exactly the kind of thing I want for soup, and I hardly ever see anything like that, even without recipes here. Some day I’ll find some, though! Be sure to tell us about your tomato soup.
