I was on a roll two weeks ago… doing some spring cleaning, decluttering, organizing, and trying to stay on top of my spring garden, where the weeds are growing faster than I can pull them out:

Then, early last Monday morning, I had an altercation with the hallway again….
Now, if you recall, the last time I had an altercation with the hallway was last year when I tripped and broke my wrist… this time I had a dizzy spell and gave my head a big whack on the wall… and then kept going to the ground, landing on my left side and then on my back….
Having learned my lesson last year about broken bones, I got DH to take me to the doctor to get an X-ray and get checked up… the good news was that I didn’t break anything this time… but did have a slight concussion. And boy was I sore!!! I thought I might have broken a rib, but it seems not… but my head – I have never hit my head that hard before, it was an interesting experience…
I now have a better understanding of elderly people who have a fall. It’s bad enough at my age (56), I can’t even imagine how it is for those in their 70s, 80s, and 90s! It also doesn’t bode well for my future if I am having regular falls already – but hey, I am not going to dwell on that, lol!
By the end of last week, I was feeling much better… still sore, but my head was doing better… so I decided to do all the things – garden, continuing with my spring cleaning, etc….
Sunday morning, I woke up and felt like I’d been hit over the head again… so I did a bit of research on concussions, and turns out it can take a while to get over one… so you live and learn, right?!
The long and short of my research was that I needed to rest. Back to my armchair I went, but during my brief spurt of energy, I had set up my sewing nook in the kitchen again, so I thought I would do a little bit of mindless sewing.
I found my 2 1/2″ Christmas scrap basket

and am slowly working on a Christmas table topper…
It doesn’t take much brain power, and I can just sit and chain sew a little bit at a time… I’m just alternating scraps of Christmas fabric with background fabric squares…

I did manage to get out to the studio and iron the fabric for the borders of our Snowballs and Snowflakes BOM…

But I am not happy with the inner border fabric (the one with the white background). I feel it needs to have a medium fabric between the blocks and the dark blue outer border. I remember that at the time, the fabric was out of stock at the Fat Quarter Shop – so I may need to find a different one for that.
Please bear with me while I get over this bump on my head.. I will be a good girl and try to rest as much as I can so that I can get back to regular posting again.
Oh, almost forgot! The latest Rose Cottage update:

It’s come to a bit of a halt (like me!) over the past week, but hopefully they will get busy again at the end of this week…

I just noticed this at the Fat Quarter Shop… Check it out!

I am so sorry to hear about your fall. Please take care of yourself so you can enjoy that Rose Cottage! I’m glad you feel well enough to do the mindless sewing. That can be very productive.
Dear Joy, so sorry to hear of your fall. Do take a proper amount of time to recuperate, a drastic way to get sewing time but it’s a good relaxant. Emma 😇
Oh Joy, I’m so sorry to hear of your fall. Please do take care of yourself. I’m almost 72 and trying to keep from falling is always front and center in my mind, especially with my bad knees. And, as a retired nurse, you have to take it easy and give that concussion time to heal, my friend. Sending you lots of warm hugs and prayers for a full recovery!
Oh Joy I’m so sorry to read about your fall, but I’m glad you didn’t break anything. Was a reason determined for the dizziness? It’s good you are resting, that sounds like a hard blow to the body!
Your snowballs and snowflakes look so pretty – I sure hope to get busy on mine after Thanksgiving. I’m excited about the Rose Cottage! Please take good care.
Good grief woman you are having a rough time of things! Glad to hear that you didn’t break anything but watch that concussion, it takes time for that to heal! Take care and rest up!
Goodness, GF! Be careful! I have fallen a few times and know where you are. Things don’t have to be broken to be plenty sore and concussions can be miserable. It takes time. The cottage is looking great! Take care of you. Prayers for healing.
Rest up is right!!! Take it from me! The new table runner is so pretty! Love the little embroidery and pieced wall hanging! Wow to the progress on the Rose cottage!!!! Take care of yourself!
Oh Joy, that’s not the best way to get out of housework!!! It sounds like you are taking care though and finding some time to do some peaceful sewing….. Great to see the progress on Rose Cottage..

Oh my – please take care of you!!! Don’t rush back at doing too much and take the time you need to heal fully.
