Sorry, I have been AWOL from blogland… but I have been busy here in my little corner of the world, just not with as much sewing as I would have liked!
Rose Cottage
The past three weeks I’ve been busy getting Mum and Dad ready to move into Rose Cottage in our backyard… which is nearly finished!

We have mostly been working on the outside – friends came and helped take 7 trailer loads of building junk away, and we had to rip up our entire back veranda – it was very old and one big tripping hazard…
Now we are waiting for the concreters to come and put concrete down to the cottage to make things nice and safe for my parents.
I don’t think I have worked this hard in my life… physically outdoors that is! There were bricks, concrete, wood, tin, rocks, and all sorts that needed to be cleared. I am so thankful for good friends who helped out… it all looks so much better now.
Rainbow Scrap Challenge ~ February was Green
In the sewing room, I did manage to do my RSC blocks for February:

Free pattern for the Cheshire Cat is here.
Free pattern for the Maple Leaf is here.
This month is Red, so I’d better get started pulling scraps for that…
My plan for the year was to get my new blocks done in the first half of the month, and then work on old projects for the rest of the month… that hasn’t happened yet… sigh. Maybe once we get my parents moved, things will settle down a bit…
Stay at Home Round Robin
I now remember why I never made it too far with this challenge in past years.. because this is a busy time of the year for us here in Oz… It’s summer, too hot to sew, need to look after the garden, usually doing preserving… and this year getting my parents moved.
So, needless to say, I am behind with the rounds!!!
Round Four ~ Curves
I was behind on rounds three and four when I managed to get a bit of time in the studio.. I made round four first, which was curves. I don’t mind curves, so I had a few ideas, but finally ended up deciding to do drunkard’s path blocks in the corners:

I used my Accuquilt Drunkard’s Path die to cut them, which makes it so much easier….

Some Drunkards’ Path & Curve Sewing Tips
I start by pinning the middles together:

I find it easier to have the concave piece of the block on the bottom…
Then I pin the ends together:

And start sewing slowly, moving the layers to keep them matched up as I go…

I wouldn’t say sewing curves is hard, but it is fiddly. Pins and having the concave piece on the bottom helps me a lot.
Round Three ~ Animals
For round three, I chose flying geese… another block that I don’t mind making, though some people really dislike it!
Of course, I didn’t think about how many flying geese I was going to have to make………

I finished one side, which needed 13 flying geese… now I still need to make 39 more, lol!
That will be this week’s goal – and finishing the next rounds.
That is it for today… I have a busy week coming up with finishing things for the cottage, supervising workers and concreters, and here on the blog I want to launch our new BOM…. let’s see how I go!
I hope you are having a lovely stitchy weekend,

You have a busy life right now! I sure hope that when you see your SAHRR quilt, it just makes you smile because it sure is pretty! No worries about being behind, we’re just glad you joined in with us this year. I look forward to seeing your continued progress, but no pressure!
Thanks Wendy! I will keep working on it.. slowly… I’m so glad I joined in! xx
The Rose Cottage is beautiful and how wonderful to have your parents near! I’m sure they will love it!
I love your kitty block. Do you have a pattern for that and if so how can I get it? My daughter-in-law rescues kitties and I’ve been wanting to make her a quilt and this would be perfect! Thank you!
Thanks Debbie! We are so looking forward to having them move in! I have updated the blog post with a link to the free pattern for the kitty – it would make a perfect quilt for your daughter-in-law! I would love to rescue kitties one day…. when we retire maybe and my husband agrees… lol! xx
Love how your SAHRR is looking, Joy! And your building progress is coming right along. It is definitely hard work. We turned half of our main level garage into a room for my mom and we did it all ourselves, so I know it isn’t an easy task. But definitely worth it! You have a month now to finish up the SAHRR so don’t worry too much about it!
Oh wow, you did it all yourself – that is amazing! This is stressful enough dealing with builders… but hopefully it will be done soon. I will keep working on the SAHRR! xx
Move in day is almost here. How exciting for you and your parents. I remember when we poured our new back steps and patio. What a difference it made. Your RSC blocks look pretty good and even if you only get those two blocks done each month, it will still be progress. Give yourself some grace.
Thank you Ginny, I am trying to give myself some grace…. it will be so good to have my parents here and we can get into a routine.. I hope! In the meantime, you are right, even keeping up with the RSC blocks will be good! xx
Rose Cottage is looking beautiful! That is a really nice ramp in front. Are your parents excited? Your SAHRR is looking very pretty, love the fabrics. I like making flying geese too and I love the way they look. Good luck and don’t work too hard!
Thanks Linda! I do like how SAHRR is looking… need to keep going with those flying geese! My parents are excited, we just all want to get them moved in and get into a new routine! Soon, I hope! xx
I think your parents are going to be very happy living in Rose Cottage and it will be so much easier for you to have them nearby. You’ve certainly been busy with all you have on your plate right now!
Yes I think they will be very happy and we will have a lovely time together… I don’t like being this busy but things should settle down soon I hope! xx
Your SAHRR is coming along very nicely. I like what your are doing with each round. Love the kitty blocks for RSC.
Thanks Sara! I am enjoying the SAHRR… now to find time to keep working on it! xx
