Well, it has taken me a while, but I have finally decided what my UFO challenge of the year is going to be and of course you are all welcome to join in 🙂
My UFO Challenge for 2017
Thank you for all your suggestions… my final decision includes a bit of craziness, because what fun is a challenge if it isn’t slightly crazy, right? I’d love to finish all my UFOs in a year, but that is too crazy, so I came up with….
I think I might be able to do half of my UFOs this year… if I really, really try.. and with all of your help and encouragement of course! And if you want to join in, I am sure you don’t have as many UFOs as I do, so if I can do it, then you can too!!
Oh, and I am planning on giving out a prize at the end of the year for all of us who reached our goal – big or little as it may be…..
I will be setting up a page on my site where we can write our starting number (half our ufos) and update it as we finish things. This way it will be nice and visual. More on that next week.
And to help us all reach our goal, I am going to start this up again:
Finishing Stitches
Back in 2010/11 many of you joined me each month in working on finishing UFOs. To start with, it was a challenge to finish one UFO a month, and many of us did that! It was a very productive year…
Then I changed the rules a bit and added a second part to the challenge – to finish at least one block of a UFO that we were working on.
I am going to do things a little differently this time. I will schedule a post on the first of each month to remind us to work on our UFOs, and then at the end of the month, I will put up a linky so that you can post about your finishes on your own blog rather than me posting them on mine. That took up way too much time last time – me visiting everyone’s blogs and hunting up pics of the finishes….
So, to start off this month, here are the “rules” for this time ’round:
Part A
Just finish a UFO – big, small, made of paper, wool, fabric, paint, whatever.
Part B
This part is only for quilters. It is to finish at least one BLOCK for a UFO. Some UFOs will not be finished in one month, but the main goal of this part of the challenge is to work on finishing them, one block at a time. So the challenge is to finish as many blocks as possible this month. You can work out what your definition of a block is. Small block, big block, stitched block, applique… just as long as you are finishing….
You can join in with either Part A or Part B or both.
In Conclusion…
I would love you to join me with either or both of these challenges! I will let you know when I get the “Cut Your UFOs in Half” page up… until then, if you want to join, go count your UFOs!! If you need inspiration on how to do this, then go read my October series again…
If you want to join Finishing Stitches, then all you have to do is start working on your UFOs and link up at the end of the month 🙂
Sign me up–I’m crazy!!!! If you can finish a hundred and something I can finish 44. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!
I’d like to think I can work through half of my UFOs this year…if not, I like the thought of moving some of them along block by block! Will be on the look out for your linky at the end of the month!
I definitely will be joining you with this….. I did find a lot of motivation getting stuff done last time…. much better idea for people to link up rather than you having to do all the searching through our blogs…

Count me in! My UFO list is manageable, and I have a few long-term projects to work on each month. Thanks for the motivation!!
Sounds great – count me in!!!
OK, I’m in too. Have only counted my tops to be quilted so far, (23) with one already on the machine. I’ve started counting the fabric, crochet, knitting & other craft UFO’s but haven’t made up a proper list, so must get working on that. Thanks for hosting this Joy & see what I manage each month. Take care.
Great idea Joy! I will be joining in
Can I join in too? I have begun a list of UFOs but I’m sure there are plenty more hiding in the boxes I have packed up in the shed as we are hoping to move too (not as far as you though!)
Since almost all of my UFOs are packed, ready for the moving process, I’m not sure how many I have. But count me in anyhow cuz I kept some handwork out. Thanks for doing this again!
goodluck with your challenge……….
