I’m in spring cleaning mode… it comes with the season, doesn’t it! As the weather begins to warm up, the need to clean seems to kick in… starting with washing and putting away the winter quilts..
Quilts

That’s my winter quilt above… I love it, the batting is double thickness and so nice for the colder weather. I noticed the edges are starting to fray; that’s how much use it has had.
This is just a lap quilt that DD used while she was here because she was cold!

I love having quilts in the lounge room – I have them under the coffee table so anyone can grab one to snuggle under if they get cold…

Notice the curtain is a little short….?! When DD came to visit, we had to rearrange things.. including curtains… I have another one that needs to go up on that long window. I’ll hopefully get around to hanging it soon! Loki doesn’t seem to mind, though – he likes to sit up there and look outside…and then fall asleep!
Cooking for the Freezer
I’ve been doing a bit of cooking for the freezer… someone sweet potatoes, so I blanched them to put in the freezer:

I’m planning on using them to make mash later, or roast them…
I was also given some potatoes and onions. I got the potatoes blanched and put them in the freezer, but I still need to do the onions later in the week. I do like to have these things in the freezer ready to pull out, and when it’s free, it’s an added bonus!
Groceries
Tomorrow, my friend Liz and I are going to drive down to Costco – it takes about an hour and a half each way, but it will be worth it.
I made a list of prices at Woolies to compare when I go down there:

I have noticed that you really need to know your prices when you shop there, because some things look cheap, but they are not. With grocery prices so high, I want to do all I can to keep our grocery bill down.
My car is very fuel efficient, and with two of us sharing the cost, I think it is still worth it to make the trip… but I will be tracking my savings and making sure..
That’s a bit of this and that from me… how are you doing? Do you get the urge to do Spring cleaning as well? How about freezer cooking? And tell me.. what are grocery prices doing in your part of the world?

Love all the quilts wish I had one or two LOL, even the Cat loves the quilts and knows not to lay on them
Hope your trip shopping went well! Nice to do Spring cleaning!!!
Hi I always do spring cleaning, plus I do a deep clean before Christmas. The prices here are very high. Sugar is around $3.89 for a 2 kg bag at a grocery store. Not sure the price at Costco.
Beautiful quilts and a great idea to put them in the coffee table!
I don’t do spring cleaning per se, at least not in the spring. My mother always did hers in January so she had a fresh start for the year and I guess I’ve followed her example.
Your quilts are wonderful! Loki is so beautiful, I bet he loves that space. I have never frozen potatoes of any kind, I need to give that a try. We do find some bargains at Costco. I love Charmin tissue, and Costco brand is very much like it but cheaper. I don’t enjoy shopping there because they don’t have the scan and go like Sam’s Club does, seems like the lines are so long. And you know how valuable my time is. 😉
Really like the quilts you showed us. Double batt makes for a very warm quilt. I have had to re-do the bindings on a couple of older quilts to extend their life. Sounds like that job is in your future, too. I have never frozen any kind of potato. Hearing that was interesting. Do you lay them out on a cookie sheet, after the blanching, til frozen and then bag them up? The grocery list was like reading Greek for me. I know very little about the metric system. Hahaha I am impressed with how carefully you comparison price shop, though.
Thank you for sharing some of your daily things you do.
