My World Watercolor Month journey continues, hosted by Emma, here on YouTube….

I shared my first 10 days of paintings here, the next 10 days are here, and today I’ve got the last 10 days to share with you…

Days 21 & 23

For Day 21, we did watercolor blob flowers… I am still having trouble getting my brush strokes “right”; I think the brushes I have are not quite right…. I need to practice a lot more.

The next video in the list was Day 23, and I didn’t realize until afterwards that I had missed Day 22 because it was a live stream and in a different place on YouTube… so hence the non-sequential dates! Day 23 was doing “under painting,” starting off with shadow colors on the opposite side of the color wheel… so before it ended up like the photo above, it looked like this:

Not so convinced the finished fruit are that great… the orange looks more like a squashed potato or something else, lol!

Days 22 & 24

I found Day 22 and it was a birthday cake because it was Emma’s birthday. That was quite fun… then Day 24 was to try to paint water reflections….

Days 25 & 26

Day 25 was DUCK DAY!!! You know, the one I was stressed about… well, it turned out better than expected!!!

Day 26 was, according to Emma, the hardest of them all…. it is supposed to be an underwater scene with coral… I think I needed more wet on it, but it was fun to do…

Days 27 & 28

Day 27 was another one I was dreading because I didn’t think I could draw, let alone paint shells… but I followed each step and ended up with two shells.. I think I like the bottom one best.

Day 28 was more Florals, with some composition lessons (which I still need to add notes for at the bottom of the painting). I enjoyed doing them, but again, I had trouble with the brushes making the strokes I wanted. I’d like to do more of these once I can get hold of some better brushes…

Days 29 & 30

Day 29 was all about landscape composition and the rule of thirds… I kind of forgot how to paint trees, and Emma went pretty quickly with the painting…. still, the main lesson focus was composition, so I did get that right. I’m also happy with my clouds!

Day 30 was working with one color and making different values, so another good technique to learn.

And that was the challenge done and dusted!!!

Oh, this next photo is just for fun… I found two little watercolor paintings I did when I was a teenager!

I must have liked them enough to keep them all these years! I have to say the colors have lasted quite well…

Ok, that is my first attempt at World Watercolor Month!

What is the verdict?

Well, I actually enjoyed it… even the duck…. (lol), and I would like to continue to practice my brush strokes and try to do more florals. I love floral watercolor, and I think with practice I might get better at it.

I think what I will do now is get some better paints (ie not a child’s watercolor paint palette!), some better brushes, and a watercolor sketchbook and try all the techniques again. I think I would benefit from doing more than one attempt at each technique. So there may be some more posts about painting; let’s see… who knows. It will be interesting to see if I am still doing watercolor painting when next year’s World Watercolor Month comes around!
