Today I offer you a traditional Aussie recipe – the classic Sausage Roll!

Sausage rolls are one of DH’s favorite foods… like his mum and nana used to make. I had never had a sausage roll like this before, not until I married him. The Dutch have sausage rolls, but not quite the same, as my mother often tells me, lol!
Since DH loved them so much and they are cheap and easy to make, I learned how to make them.
This is what you need (the full list is in the recipe at the end of the post):

Plop everything in the biggest bowl you have….

Don’t forget to soak the two pieces of bread in water…. like I often do…. I need to remind myself to start with that step… just put two slices of bread in a deep bowl and cover with water till it’s absorbed…

Grab some gloves (or not!) and mix it all up… It’s nice and squishy….

Make sure the bread is nicely squished up with all the other stuff….
Grab your pastry sheets and cut them in half. Here in Australia you buy them in the freezer section – I just buy the cheapest no-name brand and start spooning the sausage mix into the middle of the half sheets:

Pull one side of the pastry up and over the mixture:

…. and then the other side:

Flip it around so that the seam is on the bottom, then cut PERFECTLY even “rolls”…. just kidding, I eyeball it, and I don’t get them anywhere near perfectly the same size!!!

Place them on a baking tray; I use baking paper, otherwise they stick:

Grab the second egg which you have already beaten with a fork of course…. and brush it onto the sausage rolls…

Pop it in the preheated oven (or not because I always forget to preheat….) and cook for about 30min till golden brown….

Serve with some “dead horse” (tomato sauce):
